Biography: Matthew Garvey, DNP, MBA, RN
Matthew is a highly credentialed healthcare professional from Tompkinsville, Kentucky, a charming small town 60 miles south of Bowling Green. His professional journey is built upon a solid educational foundation that began at Monroe County High School, where he was active in extracurricular activities, including competing on the archery team and participating in track and field events as a shot put and discus thrower. Matthew also dedicated much of his younger years to volunteer work with multiple civic organizations and the local long-term care facility. His volunteer work with the long-term care facility led to his first job at the age of 15, the youngest employee in the organization, where he began his healthcare journey as a recreational therapy assistant. Matthew has never left the healthcare sector since starting his career at 15.

Following his high school graduation in 2011, Matthew pursued his passion for healthcare by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Kentucky University. Currently, he is expanding his expertise into the legal field by pursuing a Juris Doctor at the University of Dayton.

Matthew began his teaching journey by building a State Registered Nurse Aide program at Western Kentucky University with the South Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center. This program taught pre-physician assistant, pre-nursing, and pre-medicine students the foundations of patient care, and allowed them to gain clinical experience prior to entering their professional role. Matthew was also instrumental in expanding the program to assist GED seeking students in the community education program gain industry skills to enter the workforce. This hands-on clinical expertise forms the foundation of his comprehensive understanding of nursing, education, and healthcare delivery, and has informed his subsequent leadership roles.

He currently serves as a Utilization Management Specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center while maintaining positions as an Emergency Department Staff Nurse at Harrison Memorial Hospital and as Adjunct Faculty in Northern Kentucky University's DNP program. His entrepreneurial spirit is evident in his ownership of Garvey Consulting & Education Services, LLC, which provides specialized medical-legal analysis and consultation services.
